Decoding-Level
These strategies will support children in developing skills that will help them be able to read and spell at the "word level" (sound out words) later on.
These skills are the bulk of the reason why children struggle with reading, but they are still not what we should be spending the most time on.
Some children will need more support than others due to differences in the structure and function of their brains (approximately 15-20% of children have dyslexia), but most will easily pick up on these skills with highly trained educators who know that "A little each day keeps the fun in the play!"
Word-level skills are best learned through playful games and multisensory activities. In other words, sitting down to do worksheets, or even 'uninformed' alphabet activities, is not helpful.
